MUSKEGON, MI – The Lakeshore Art Festival, which brings vibrant arts, crafts and music to downtown Muskegon each summer, has been canceled this year due to the ongoing coronavirus. The eighth annual festival was scheduled to take place July 3-4, 2020. "While we did spend a great deal of time considering safe and healthy ways to host the show this year, as well as alternative dates and possible virtual events, what it came down to is the safety of our exhibitors, guests, volunteers and community," organizers wrote on the festival's Facebook page Tuesday, May 12. Last year's festival drew nearly 400 vendors to Hackley Park and on West Western and Clay avenues, and Second, Third and Fourth streets. Festival organizers are still planning for the PADNOS Public Art Project, and promised more details soon. NEW ORLEANS — With kids learning from home these days, teachers are looking for ways to keep them engaged.   Karen Swensen introduced us to an art teacher whose kids turned an assignment into a masterpiece. An Art teacher at Stuart Hall School for Boys, Kristen Anderson gave this assignment to students who range from pre-k to fourth grade.  Their assignment was to use whatever costumes and supplies they have in their homes to recreate famous works of art, and they could use their families for props, too. Anderson was blown away when project after project was submitted.  Inspired by a global art challenge issued by the Getty Museum in LA, Anderson thought it would be fun to issue her little ones a similar challenge.  They could use arts, crafts, pets, parents…anything.   And they made use of everything. SHERBORN, MA — Sherborn's 48th annual Arts and Crafts Fair was canceled in light of the new coronavirus. Social distancing measures are strictly in place as well as the stay-at-home order. The event was hosted by the Friends of Sherborn Library and planned for Saturday. Founded in 1972, the fair showcases unique arts and crafts and artisan tastes from around New England and is an anticipated event for families and shoppers from Sherborn surrounding towns of Natick, Dover, Medfield, Wellesley, Needham, Hopkinton and Millis. The fair would also feature a popular spring plant sale, games and activities, as well as crafting education, community booths, a silent auction and several local food vendors. EAST TAWAS – The Memorial Day Arts and Crafts Show at Tawas City Shoreline Park would have entered its 28th year this month. But, like many other activities as of late, the event has been cancelled in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Sponsored by the Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC), the annual arts and crafts show has traditionally been held on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The occasion consistently brings in a large crowd and, as reported, the 2019 show boasted more than 150 booths with crafts, paintings, furniture, jewelry and other attractions.
